Building a journey plan and approving changes

Permanent journey plans define each rep's route by day. Reps request changes; managers approve them. The plan feeds visits, coverage reports and the rep's daily map.

A journey plan is the list of outlets a rep visits on each day of the cycle. It is built from your geography, Region to Zone to Territory to Town to Dealer, and it is what the app opens each morning as the route for the day.

Permanent and temporary plans

A permanent plan repeats every cycle. A temporary plan covers a period, for example a launch or a stand-in. Both can be built in the portal or on the phone by a manager.

Changes

A rep can request a change to a day's route from the app. The request goes to the manager, who approves or rejects it. Managers can also build their own field journeys, which go to their approvers.

What the plan feeds

  • Today's route, as a list and on the map, with month-to-date target against achieved.
  • Call coverage and productive-call reports: planned visits against made visits.
  • Outlet verification: new outlets added by reps join the plan once head office approves them.

Route optimisation, meaning the software choosing the order of visits for you, is not something Targets does. It runs the route your field managers planned and shows you how much of it was covered, which is what most distribution teams actually need.
