Posting sales to accounts, and reading the ledger
Delivered sales, returns, discounts and receipts become vouchers automatically. The ledger shows every account down to the voucher behind each line.
Accounts in Targets are posted from the transactions that already happened in sales and purchasing. Nobody re-enters an invoice.
What posts, and where
- Company: vendor purchases post to payables; sales to distributors post to revenue and receivables.
- Distributor: purchases from the company post as cost; sales to the market post as revenue, with GST to its own payable account and receipts against the customer.
- Returns and discounts post as reversals and reductions.
The sync
Posting runs in the background and each item posts once. A sync status shows what has been posted and what is pending. Vouchers created by the sync move through the same prepared, checked and approved steps as manual vouchers if you require approval.
Reading the books
Open the general ledger for any account and any period and drill to the voucher behind each line. Trial balance, profit and loss and balance sheet are on screen and download to Excel. The company and each distributor keep independent books, and a distributor sees only their own.
More on Sales & distribution
Setting up geography and hierarchy
Regions, areas, territories and towns, and the managers and reps who own them. Access and reporting both follow this structure.
Adding products, price lists and discount levels
Products carry category, brand and pack size. Prices live in lists per company, distributor and group. Four discount levels apply automatically, then a manual discount on top.
Onboarding a distributor
Create the distributor, set opening stock, add their users and decide what they can see. Most distributors are live within a week of the company being set up.
